Why Garden Church?
"The Lord God took the human and put the human in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it."
"[A] Christian agriculture is formed upon the understanding that it is sinful for people to misuse or destroy what they did not make. The Creation is a unique, irreplaceable gift, therefore to be used with humility, respect, and skill."
--Wendell Berry, The Unsettling of America
Being close to the earth is our communal spiritual practice of love and justice. Using sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices not only preserves the earth, but it also contributes positively to the cycle of life and helps reverse climate change. Local food makes our community strong. We envision justice in our community when healthy, toxin-free food is available for all.
What to Expect at Garden Church
We gather on various farms and homesteads to support each other's efforts to care for the land and live in interdependent connection with God's creation. Garden Church begins with a brief devotional, followed by an hour or so of work on a project, and closes with a sharing circle and a prayer. Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring work gloves.
All ages are welcome. Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent or caregiver.
